DIY: Hair Bows!

 - by Sami

As a continuation of my diy hair accessories post, here’s a quick & easy tutorial on how to make hair bows!

You can find everything at your local craft store. I got all of this for under $20 at AC Moore.

Steps:

Before we get started, make sure you lay down a few sheets of newspaper on your workspace. You do not want to get superglue all over your table or desk.

Also, when making your bow, you’ll want to think about how big you want it to be. I like mine between 3-5 inches long. So, when you cut the 1 inch wide ribbon, cut a piece twice the size you want your bow to be. So, I’ll cut my ribbon between 6-10 inches long.

steps1-2

Once you have your piece of ribbon,  glue one end on top of the other end so your ribbon forms a loop. Let it dry for a few seconds.

Using your glued ends as the back center of your ribbon, pinch the center of the bow together like I’m doing above. This is going to be the center of your bow, where you will place the smaller, 1/2 inch wide ribbon.

steps3-4

Now, cut a piece of the 1/2 inch wide ribbon {you won’t need more than 2 or 3 inches} and glue one end to the center of your bow.

Wrap it around once or twice and glue it to the back of your bow. Depending on how long you cut your piece, you may need to cut a little off so that it ends at the back of your bow. Let it dry.

steps5-6

Slip a bobby pin through the 1/2 inch wide ribbon on the back of your bow. If you’d like, you can sew a button on to the front or glue on some fake gems, too. And there you have it, a hair bow! Wear it yourself or give it to a friend, daughter, or your adorable niece. :)

The great thing about these bows is that they don’t have to be hair bows. You can simply take out the bobby pin and slip them onto a chain to wear them as a necklace! <3
