Pucker Up (Naturally)!: 10 All-Natural Lipsticks, Balms & Glosses

10 Natural Lipsticks balms and glosses via @poorandpretty

I don’t wear very much makeup but I always have at least 3 lip products on hand at all times. I’ve usually got two different lip balms and a lipstick or gloss for a little extra color. And you know, it’s not easy finding natural lipsticks and non-petroleum lip glosses. Luckily, I’ve done the research and found a few I really love.

1. Handmade Coco Balm by Poor & Pretty: My 100% natural, vegan-approved lip balm is made with certified organic Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Candelilla Wax, sweetened with all-natural Stevia extract. (Yes, my Etsy shop is back open! Just Coco Balms & Coco Body Balms for now, but I’ve got some ideas for the holidays, so stay tuned!)

2. Handmade Wild Pollen Lip Balm: You might remember this from my latest Maker Takes post. I’m all about DIY beauty, so I was very happy to find lip balm ingredients in June’s For the Makers box. Want to make your own? Get the tutorial and supplies here.

3. Ora’s Amazing Herbal Lip Balms: I bought this sampler gift box from Ora’s Amazing Herbal on Abe’s Market and I love my Vanilla and Earl Grey lip balms! The box also came with a Minty Cocoa flavor, but I’m not a big fan of the mint + chocolate combination, so I gave it to Stan. Check out all of their flavors and other all-natural products here.

4. Yes to Carrots Lip Butter: This is a great store-bought alternative to Burt’s Bees (which I find dries out my lips even more). They seem to have discontinued the original Carrot lip butter, but you can buy it in Berry, Mint, or Pomegranate from most drugstores or online here.

5. Fairness Gloss by PeaceKeeper Cause-Metics: I love the name of this company, and their commitment to fostering global peace. For example: the proceeds from this lip gloss support equal wage advocacy. The gloss is a lovely neutral color and made with organic castor oil, beeswax, carnauba wax, shea butter, and vitamin E — 75% organic ingredients! It doesn’t get goopy and sticky like petroleum glosses do.

6. Paint Me Loving Natural Lipstick by PeaceKeeper Cause-Metics: This looked much more pink online, but in person it is a very pale pink/neutral. It gives just a hint of color, which is nice because I like a more natural look.

7. Aveda Nourish-Mint™ Smoothing Lip Color in Sheer Melochia Bloom: This is my go-to lipstick when I want something with a bit more color. It’s a true pink, but it goes in sheer and tastes like mint and cinnamon! This color is no longer available, but the closest thing to it would probably be Fossil or Wild Plum.

8. Magnolia Lip Gloss by Au Naturale: A very pretty and shimmery pink lip gloss, made with olive, castor, broccoli seed, apricot and more lovely natural oils. This is great on its own or over lipstick.

9. 100% Pure Lip Creme Stick in Perfect Naked Pink: This is slightly darker and peachier than the Aveda lipstick and has more of an opaque matte finish. I love that it’s colored using fruit and vegetable pigments rather than minerals or synthetic dyes.

10. 100% Pure Lip & Cheek Stain in Cherry: I’ve never used a lip stain before, so this was interesting! You have to apply it very quickly or it will be darker on some parts of your lips more than others. It’s a very deep red, so I usually only apply one layer and the color lasts much longer than your average lipstick or gloss.

Before After 100 Percent Pure Lip Stain via @poorandpretty

It really is like staining your lips! On the left, I’m wearing only lip balm, and on the right, I’m using just one layer of 100% Pure’s Lip & Cheek Stain. I finish with lip balm or gloss to give it a little shine. I haven’t tried it on my cheeks yet — I’m afraid I’ll look like a clown! Oh, and it does not taste like cherry, so don’t lick your lips!

What are some of your favorite natural lipsticks, glosses, and balms? Did I miss any that I should absolutely try? Let me know in the comments!

1. Yes to Carrots Nourishing Shampoo — the last time I dyed my hair, I really did a number to it because I stripped color and then added red over it. My hair was very angry at me, which is why I’m letting my roots grow out. I’ve been using paraben-, SLS-, and petroleum-free Yes to Carrots Nourishing Shampoo and loving it for hydrating my hair and keeping the frizz at a minimum.

2.Dress Green Pure Hydration Facial Cream — my quest for the perfect, affordable facial cream seemed like an endless one. Because my face alternates between really dry and oily, I’ve had a hard time finding something that hydrates, but doesn’t make my skin oily. Solution: Dress Green’s Pure Hydration Facial Cream. Besides hydrating without being oily, the Pure Hydration Facial Cream is vegan, made with nutrient-rich Avocado Oil, Cocoa Butter, Rose Hip Oil, and other natural ingredients, plus it’s free of parabens and petroleum. I think I’m in love.

3. Earth Science Aloe Vera Complexion Toner & Freshener — While my homemade green tea toner is great for freshening up my face, it doesn’t remove makeup very well, and it’s hard to tell how well it removes dirt from my skin {because it appears yellow on a cotton ball}. Earth Science’s alcohol-free and non-drying Aloe Vera Complexion Toner & Freshener visibly removes makeup and dirt, plus the Aloe Vera, Hyaluronic Acid, and Sea Kelp ingredients moisturize the skin.
