Okay, lame headline again. Sorry! This is a cross-post from the Jennie Fresa Beauty Library blog. In light of my recent sunburn acquisition, I was in sore need of an exfoliation today. Here are a few of my favorites — found across the web — that are super easy to make at home. My focus for the Jennie Fresa post was on scrubs for feet, but you can use these for your body, too:

1. Gimme Some Suga, Scrub! from Poor & Pretty — you may remember my sugar scrub diy from last February. This sugar scrub is very easy to make and only requires two ingredients: raw cane sugar and a carrier oil {I prefer jojoba or safflower oil}. You can also add in Vitamin E oil for extra smoothness, but that’s entirely optional. Read the full instructions here. Image below.

2. Strawberry Hand and Foot Exfoliant from Spa Index — this is another super simple one, and you can find all of the ingredients at your local grocery store if you don’t already have them in your home. You just need strawberries, olive oil {or apricot oil, if you have it}, and coarse salt {Kosher or sea salt}. Read the full instructions here. Spa Index has tons of really great masks, scrubs, and other spa-at-home recipes. See all of them here.

3. DIY Salt Scrub from Everything Fabulous — coarse salt + oil + essential oils {optional, but definitely beneficial}. Easy as pie! Sasha makes this recipe simple, but also gives you tons of ways to customize it. Love! Read the full instructions here.

4. Homemade Foot Scrub from Soap Deli News — Rebecca’s blog always has great tutorials, ranging from categories like beauty, home improvement, organization… I could go on and on. This Homemade Foot Scrub recipe was shared by a guest blogger, and it contains four ingredients, all of which you can find at a grocery store. Read the full instructions here.

Hi readers! Remember me from the couponing post? I’m Sami’s boyfriend Stan and I’m back with a recipe for strawberry lemonade! Traditionally, Fall isn’t the proper season for delicious cold beverages, but we common folk don’t get to choose when lemons go on sale! On our shoestring budgets, Sami and I have developed quite a taste for anything healthy and inexpensive, so when I found lemons for about $.30 apiece the other day, I couldn’t resist picking some up. One brainstorm later, it was decided that the frozen strawberries we keep in the freezer for smoothies also needed to be a part of this.

Here’s what you need:

4 large lemons. Pick some good-looking ones! You want them to be a bright, vivid yellow color, not dull or faded. Millions of years of evolution have given you an eye for what looks “good” – use it!

3 cups of frozen strawberries. Frozen strawberries are flash-frozen right after they’re picked, and as such are more nutritious than “fresh” strawberries from the store. They’re also less expensive and last a long time in the freezer, so save money over time by purchasing a large bag!

water {about 5-6 cups}

2/3 cup of sugar {or more, to taste}. It’s okay to use cane or other coarse-grained sugar – this will be going in the blender.

1 large liquid container. Should be able to hold at least a liter and a half of liquid. We recycled an orange juice container with a wide neck to make filling it easier, and a cap so we could shake it before serving.

1 lemon juicer – optional. You can always use your hands!

Here’s what you need to do:

1. Cut the lemons in half and squeeze them, by hand or juicer, into a bowl, cup, or other container. Sami and I chose to leave the pulp and seeds in, so that the beverage feels more natural. Occasionally spitting out seeds adds to the experience for us, but if it seems like a bother, you can filter or strain them out.

2. Put the frozen strawberries in a blender and add cold water up to the 1.25 liter {a little over 5 cups} line. Alternate blending and mixing until the mixture is smooth.

3. Add the sugar to the blended mixture and blend it in thoroughly.

4. Pour the mixture from the blender into the large liquid container, pour in the lemon juice {with pulp/seeds if you left them in!} and mix thoroughly, preferably by shaking.

5. Pour into a glass and enjoy!

The resulting beverage is delicious, nutritious, and all-natural, so enjoy it within a few days after you make it {don’t worry, it’s so good it won’t last long enough to go bad!} The next time life gives you lemons {indirectly, through a great sale}, we strongly encourage you to try out this recipe.

-Stan

As I continue to become less and less dependent on cosmetic companies for my beauty products {I now make my own lip balm, face masks, shower gel, lotion, and sugar scrub, which I will be posting the recipe for soon!}, I came across a woman who also has the same ambition as me and has turned it into a one-woman-owned business. Dissatisfied with “boring” scents and not-so-animal-friendly products that permeate the beauty market, Luca Cusolito began mixing up her own cosmetic cocktails and launched Lollibomb. Lollibomb products are 100% vegan and have received raving reviews in places like Threadbanger, Bust Magazine, and Etsy. Inspired, and curious about her delicious scents {such as warm pumpkin muffin, deep fried ice cream, and strawberry shortcake}, I bought a few things.

I bought a Vegan Surprise Box, which came with Luca’s Vegan Whipped Body Frosting in Birthday Cake and Sugar Rush… I couldn’t believe how spot-on the birthday cake scent was!! I can’t stop smelling myself! The box, which was a clear plastic Chinese take-out box with pink polka-dots on it {nice style, Luca!}, also contained a Warm Vanilla Bean Fragrance Roller and a sample of her Kiss & Tell Fragrance Oil. All for only $15! Totally worth it! I also bought Strawberry Splash Edible Massage Oil {which smells, feels, and tastes scrumptious!} and a sample pack of the Vegan Mineral Foundation Powder light shades. Of course, as I suspected, I am Lili, the lighest shade of all. Sigh. The mineral powder goes on smoothly and even though it feels like I’m not wearing any powder, it evens up my skin tone and covers blemishes very nicely. I will be ordering more when I run out of my sample, for sure!

Anyway, I loved EVERYTHING I bought from Lollibomb, and it was such a great deal. The scents last longer than any other product I’ve ever used. I highly, highly recommend purchasing from Luca if you’re looking for some delicious scents with natural, cruelty-free ingredients. Even if you’re not a fan of sugary scents, Luca has something for everyone: earthy, feminine, floral, fruity, and clean scents. It’s no wonder an alternate address for her website is smellpretty.com! <3

Love Lollibomb as much as I do? Be a Lollibomb fan on Facebook, or follow Lollibomb on Twitter!
