A few weeks ago, I ordered the most glorious pair of leggings ever from Shoptiques. They are mint and covered in SEQUINS. I discovered them during my hunt for pretty Lucite Green things. I knew the first time I wore them had to be super special…

So I wore them to Monarch! I got tons of compliments on them (there were plenty of sequin-loving ladies in the room), and even felt up a few times. Ha!

We were also asked to bring either a fun tchotchke or something special that we carry with us to talk about during our icebreaker introductions. I wore my Auntie Kathy’s ring because it has such a great story to go along with it (I’ve told it before, here). Kathy is like a mother to me, and this ring reminds me that I’m just as loved, beautiful, powerful, and sassy as she is.

Oh, and these amazing photos? They were taken by Victoria of Victoria Gloria Photography, who had me cracking up the whole time. Above is my signature crinkle crooked grin.

I love this shot. It reminds me of Amélie, possibly my all-time favorite movie character.

The leggings are slightly too big for me, but that’s not going to stop me from parading around in them with pride. And oh! How awesome are those bow shoe clips?! I made them! More on those next week!

New Year, New Skirt + Scenes from our NYE Party

NYE Outfit - Ruche Sequin Skirt feat

Hosting our friends’ New Year’s Eve party this year (last year) was so fun! Of course, the day-after clean up is less fun, but totally worth it. I went for the glitzy silver and gold theme, starting with my new skirt:

I picked up this Glimmer of Light Sequin Pencil Skirt from Ruche on sale for just $25! Score! I love how it fits and it was perfect for New Year’s Eve. I paired it with a simple black shirt, bedazzled black flats, and a DIY silver star crown.

I painted my nails to match, of course, using Essie’s Licorice (black) and the ultra-glam Studio nail 54 polish by 100% Pure.

I made coconut vanilla cupcakes using this recipe topped with champagne buttercream frosting.

… And I sprinkled them with edible gold stars. So cute!

I also served up champagne Jell-O shots from my NYE Cocktails Roundup post. They were delicious!

As for decor, I made those gold fringe numbers from my NYE Party Essentials post. They actually took way longer than I expected, but that’s probably because I was wrapping them one gold tinsel strand at a time.

They did look really fun hanging though!

NYE confetti on Dave

And of course, I tossed up some confetti from The Confetti Bar at midnight, which our friend Dave promptly rolled around in. P.S. Have you seen The Confetti Bar’s DIY confetti soap, inspired by my Crafternoon?

Speaking of confetti… remember those conversation heart candle holders I made for Valentine’s Day last year? I updated them with confetti and glittery votives for the occasion!

I hope your evening was as fun as ours! Happy 2015! ♥

Holiday Threads: Stars & sequins at the company party

This past weekend I went to my first-ever company holiday party. The theme was “silver & gold.” I had been told that attire would run the gamut of work casual skirt & blouse ensemble to full-on ball gown, so I decided to go somewhere in the middle, with the Your Lucky Stars dress from ModCloth.

I’ve been eyeing this dress for some time, so I was beyond ecstatic to have a reason to buy it, and even happier that it fit me so perfectly! As my co-worker’s wife commented, I had the silver thing down pretty well, from my silver ric-rac headband down to the silvery fake gems in my flats. I added a bit more gold by painting my fingernails with a gold glitter polish.

From the bottom up: Studded Flats: Rampage, Peonies Couture, $15. Tights for Every Occasion in Ivory: ModCloth, $15. Your Lucky Stars dress: ModCloth, $90. Watch: Timex Originals Classic Round, courtesy of Timex. Headband: handmade with silver ric-rac.
