Vintanthromodern Vintage Summer Lookbook

I have begun to whole-heartedly embrace vintage, which I attribute to New Haven’s Vintanthromodern Vintage. You’ve already seen my incredibly adorable vintage balloon skirt and vintage-inspired Anthropologie patchwork dress. So when Vintanthromodern founder Melissa Gonzales asked me to be in her Summer Lookbook photo shoot, I was pretty excited.

I was especially happy because I got to spend the day with a group of really awesome boss babes and fellow Monarchs! From left to right: Betsy of Whisk + Brush, Maya of MOJALVO, Becca of Whisk + Brush, and yours truly!

We were a pretty fierce group of females, modeling Vintanthromodern Vintage’s latest rompers, swimsuits, and dresses.

My favorite outfit was this stripy fruity romper that perfectly matched the glass fruit statement necklace I’m also wearing.

Though I think everyone else had more fun watching me smolder at the camera in my red, white, and blue swimsuit, wrapped up in the American flag. (Also: look at how miniature I am standing next to the rest of the ladies! Ha!)

I was surprised at how many really cute bathing suits Melissa brought from the shop ~ all different sizes, too! She’s constantly adding more to the shop, so be sure to pop in often at 938 State Street, New Haven, CT 06511.

Modern Brush Hand Lettering with Glitter & Bold

Modern Brush Lettering with Glitter and Bold

Wednesday evening, I headed down to New Haven for one of Glitter & Bold‘s hand lettering workshops at The Haven Collective

I like my handwriting, but there’s nothing decorative or fancy about it. One of my coworkers asked me to write on a chalkboard for her a few weeks ago, and I had to sadly decline and explain that a) I’m definitely creative but not artistic and b) I simply can’t write on chalkboards without causing internal bleeding for those within earshot of the squeaking. Long story short (too late), I want to learn to write pretty.

Tools - Modern Brush Lettering with Glitter and Bold

Brittany of Glitter & Bold — who makes lovely hand-painted mugs, pillows, towels and things — supplied myself and the two other students with notebooks and two brush pens each (one black and one hot pink.)

With the brush pens (which mimic paint brushes), you get a nice diversity of thickness with your lines. Brittany taught us to pull lightly on the tip of the pen on upward motions and press the side of the pen on downward motions.

It takes little bit of getting used to, so we filled entire sheets of paper practicing just one letter.

Practice does make perfect, and I think I’m getting better! I can’t wait for her hand lettering basics class next Wednesday. It’s sold out, but I’m sure she’ll host more.

Outfit: The Perfect Patchwork Dress

Outfit-Vintanthromodern-Vintage-Patchwork-Dress-2-via@poorandpretty

Yes, yes, it is definitely skirt season, and I have lots of pretty new dresses to share with you! This pretty patchwork number came from Vintanthromodern Vintage, part of The Haven Collective.

I never gave vintage much thought until stepping into Vintanthromodern Vintage last spring. Then, it was still a pop-up shop and retrofitted fashion shuttle bus. Now, it’s found a more permanent home within The Haven Collective at 938 State Street in New Haven. I’ve always loved the concept of buying upcycled/recycled clothing, but I never seemed to look right in vintage. Or maybe the shops I’d been to just didn’t have the right flair. The Haven Collective’s owner Melissa, however, keeps her shop stocked with fabulously fun vintage and vintage-inspired pieces, like this dress (originally from Anthropologie) and my adorable balloon skirt. Definitely swing by if you’re looking for a great vintage shop!

I wanted the pastels and red flowers to stand out a bit more, so I’m wearing them with my red peep toe wedges and a few dainty bracelets in complementing colors:

That ID bracelet was a gift from my Aunt Kathy (who totally spoils me, and apparently thinks I might forget my name ;)

Upcoming Events: Love Local & Galentine Bash

Galentine Square_feat

Normally, winter is a time of hibernation for my business, and I don’t usually do events. But one of my goals this year is networking, so I’ve got two lovely events coming up!

Get Baked Love Local Poster_800

I’m so pumped to be part of my very first show as a Nutmeg Collective member. It’s a fantastic, active community of Connecticut businesses. They’re hosting a pre-Valentine’s Day Love Local Market at Get Baked Bakery in Windsor this Saturday & Sunday. I’ll be there Sunday only – hopefully the weather won’t be too bad!

Galentine Square

You know how much I love collaborating with Rachel DeCavage of Cinder + Salt. We’ve teamed up with the Haven Collective to host the best Galentine event in Connecticut. Maybe even the best in the Northeast! (Yes, we’re that confident.) Stop by Saturday, February 7th to shop, mingle, and make. Rachel will teach you how to screen print and I’ll have all the mixings for salt scrubs and bath salts. Just make sure to reserve a spot if you want to craft. I’ll also have my Poor & Pretty Apothecary products in tow and Rachel’s bringing her eco-friendly clothing, jewelry, and accessories. We can’t wait!
