Friday Faves: My Natural Hair Care Routine

Have you noticed me wearing my hair natural a lot more lately? Not straightened, not pulled back, just down and wavy. I’ve gotten so many compliments from friends that I thought I’d let you in on my secret. Oh, and FYI – this is not a sponsored post.

These are the three products that have made my awesome hair possible:

1. SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo, $10 at Target.

2. SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner, $12 at Target.

3. Poor & Pretty Apothecary Rose + Sea Salt Hair Spray, $14.

Seriously, that’s it. No balms or texturizing gels. Just these three natural and awesome hair goodies.

Renaissance Twist Hair Style via @poorandpretty

I have unruly thick, wavy hair that refuses to behave, especially in humidity (thanks East Coast!). So I have had a lifelong battle trying to find the perfect mix of hair products that will tame my mad mop. I’ve tried all kinds of natural shampoos & conditioners — bar shampoos, no-poo’s, castille soap based shampoos, you name it. I’ve even tried making my own. My hair would be too dry, too oily, or I’d have to put it up or straighten it for it to look good. Then I found SheaMoisture.

SheaMoisture’s Curl & Shine shampoo and conditioner are amazing. It has seriously changed my life. My hair is healthier than it’s ever been and I can actually wear it down! Packed with Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Neem Seed Oil, Hibiscus Extract and more, SheaMoisture’s Curl & Shine shampoo and conditioner hydrate, shine, and boost my natural waves, without stripping my scalp’s natural oils with harsh surfactants. They don’t leave my hair oily either. I wash + condition every other day, then spritz on my Rose + Sea Salt Hair Spray to give it a little extra mermaid wave texture, and I’m good to go. If it starts to feel oily on my non-wash days, I’ll use my homemade dry shampoo.

I’ve totally embraced my wild, wavy, natural hair now. If your hair is anything like mine, hopefully I’ve helped solve your hair problems too! xo

Friday Faves: Summery Sandals & Flats Under $35

Favorite Summer Sandals + Flats Under $35 via @poorandpretty

Favorite Summer Sandals + Flats Under $35 via @poorandpretty

These Roxy sandals are my absolute favorite summer footwear, which is why they’re so well-worn. I bought them years ago, and they’ve lasted longer than any other pair of sandals I own. They’re comfortable and casual, but dressy enough to wear to work and nice events, too. Unfortunately, these aren’t available anymore, but I did find a few more sandals and flats to complement your summer wardrobe.

First, let’s talk about how awesome it is that jelly shoes are back! Yes!!! These are definitely my favorite style icon from the 90s.

And finally, a few flirty flats! 17. Morning Amour Flat (ModCloth). 18. Lily Pad Ballet Flats (ASOS) – these would look great with DIY glittery cap toes ;) 19. White Crochet Women’s Classics (TOMS). 20. Frolic in Fresno Flat (ModCloth).

Friday Faves 2.26.10 (Special Birthday Edition)

OPI_Strawberry_Margarita

I re-fell in love with this nail polish this week when I got my nails done.  It’s the perfect matte Barbie-pink.  Not too bright..not too dull.  Perfect!!!  It’s OPI Strawberry Marguerita.  It seemed like the best color to go with for my birthday weekend (since pink is my favorite.)

tal-ronnen-ellen-conscious-cook-1

The Conscious Cook By Tal Ronnen.  My boss at the salon saw this book on Oprah and got it for me for my birthday!  I have this strange obsession with vegan/vegetarian food even though I currently eat meat.  This book has “delicious recipes that will change the way you eat”.  His goal was to come up with vegan food just as satisfying as carnivorous dishes.  I can’t wait to try some of these recipes!!!! I’ll let you guys know when I do!

Aveda-Foot-Relief-I tried it and I’m in love!  Aveda Foot Relief is awesome!  Especially for those of us who are on their feet all day, it’s great to come home and get some relief.  The lotion is invigorating and cooling plus it deodorizes with lavender and rosemary oils.  It also softens calluses. (eiwww, those are no good.) But if you really want a treat after a long day this is the stuff to get.

And last but not least…

I’m OBSESSED with Starbucks Chai Tea Lattes!

Try one.  I can’t explain it…
