Did you know that I’ve blogged 60 outfits? Wow! So I thought I’d do something a little different today, and introduce a “ways to wear” feature. I don’t have a huge closet (though I’m sure Stan would disagree), and I’m trying to reduce it even more. I do, however, have a few staples I wear over and over again, as any frugalista should. Because it’s fall, I’m going to kick things off with my favorite footwear: my vintage red Bellini boots I picked up from loveyvintage.
It’s crazy how quickly Fall has arrived. Saturday, I was wearing shorts. Today, it’s too cold for me to be wearing these capris! (But I’m doing it anyway ’cause weather be damned!)
How was your weekend? Mine was bu-sy! We’ve got a lot of birthdays in mid-September — my Aunt Kathy’s is the 16th, my Dad’s is the 19th, Stan’s is the 21st. We celebrated Kathy & Dad’s with giant grinders and Avery’s soda on Saturday. If you’ve never had an Avery’s soda, stop by their New Britain headquarters and pick some up! They’ve got all sorts of whacky delicious flavors (Toxic Slime and Strawberry are my favorites; Stan loves Orange Cream), AND they’re still made with real cane sugar. Avery’s is one of my favorite things about my hometown. ♥
And this ban.do clutch is one of my favorite things in general. Stan got it for me last Christmas. :)
I love that it’s reversible (see the hot pink below), has a pretty polka heart lining, and reminds me to have fun. Plus it goes really well with my very fun, very sparkly Timex Originals.
So let’s confetti-kiss summer (and capris) goodbye for now, and delight in the season of apples, pumpkins, and beautiful foliage. Here’s to a fun-filled Fall!
I’ve been meaning to photograph and blog this outfit for a while now because it’s so fun! It’s another sweater dress from Marshalls. I love the funky designs and color mixes of hot pink, navy, and tan. Standing by a mound of snow nearly as tall as me really makes those colors pop!
My favorite Timex watch and a few colorful handmade bracelets gave my wrists a little more personality.
I wore it over the weekend, thinking it was kind of 60’s bohemian inspired, but my Dad said I looked like a country singer (guess I finally lived up to the name “Sami Jo!”) — what do you think? Western or Boho?
Happy Black Friday! I hope your Thanksgiving was full of delicious food and great company. As per tradition, Stan and I spent it at my Dad’s house and I went over earlier to make cranberry sauce and bread. I also contributed apple cup pies. It was a smaller crowd than we usually have — just my Dad, his girlfriend Carolyn, my aunt Kathy and uncle Ray, Stan, and I. My “little brother” Chris came by later for games, pie, and a movie. ♥
Good thing Stan and I took these photos before all the snow! We got a few inches over the last two days, but it’s still at that pretty, not piled-high-and-dirty phase so I like looking out at it. I’ll be wearing this very dotty outfit to the Celebrate Shelton Black Friday Handmade Market tonight.
Oh, and now that the cat’s out of the bag on our new polka dot Weekender watches at Timex, I can tell you my marketing idea! I thought in our advertising we should say, “Dot dot bash: you’re invited to the polka party.” But mostly I got quizzical, concerned looks. So I used it to title this outfit post instead. ;)
Until I can get my hands on one of the new reversible polka dot ones (early next year), I decided to wear my lime green DIY embroidered Timex Weekender Slip-Thru watch.
Also: it has been almost exactly five years since I started Poor & Pretty. CRAZY. Stay tuned for a big announcement on Monday!
Say hello to my new favorite skirt! It’s the Augusta Midi Skirt in burgundy from Ruche, and it has pockets and twirls and is all around just lovely.
I paired it with my thrifted cream button-up top, black polka dot tights, and Mary Jane wedges. I’ve been watching Salem, so I was inspired to be a little witchy.
While Stan and I were taking these photos, it SNOWED. Just a little. Here’s where I’d normally rant about snow, but I’ve lived in Connecticut my entire life, so it’s about time I just accept that it will snow and it will be beautiful right after it does, and then horribly ugly until it melts. I do love being snowed in with Stan though. We cuddle up on the couch and watch Netflix all day and binge on homemade hot cocoa and popcorn. ♥
Also: how cool is this purse? It was in one of my Stitch Fix boxes. I’m normally not much of a purse girl, but this was too fun to pass up. I love the rose-gold colored chain — it matches my Kate Stephen ring so nicely.
I spoiled myself at the Park City Pop Up by buying a ring and necklace from Kate Stephen Jewelry. Kate is amazing and so is her jewelry. Each handcrafted piece is unique and made with copper or brass and natural gems or upcycled materials. I asked her to make me a custom quartz ring because quartz is known for its clarifying, healing, and energizing qualities. It’s been used for centuries in crystal ball gazing. And it looks beautiful surrounded by copper wire.
I also couldn’t resist taking these Crown and Glory kitty ears home from Park City Pop Up. Latanya over at Sprinkles & Booze had a few of them. Nerd alert: When I was in high school, I was obsessed with a game called Ragnarok Online — it’s how I met Ben! It was kind of our World of Warcraft. Anyway, they had this adorable kitty head band you could get your character and this reminds me of it and makes me want to play again. (What’s happening to me?! I’m getting very nostalgic and geeky.)
