4 Ways to Wear Red Vintage Boots

4 ways to wear vintage red boots via @poorandpretty

Did you know that I’ve blogged 60 outfits? Wow! So I thought I’d do something a little different today, and introduce a “ways to wear” feature. I don’t have a huge closet (though I’m sure Stan would disagree), and I’m trying to reduce it even more. I do, however, have a few staples I wear over and over again, as any frugalista should. Because it’s fall, I’m going to kick things off with my favorite footwear: my vintage red Bellini boots I picked up from loveyvintage.

Outfit: Early Fall Florals + Avery’s Soda

It’s crazy how quickly Fall has arrived. Saturday, I was wearing shorts. Today, it’s too cold for me to be wearing these capris! (But I’m doing it anyway ’cause weather be damned!)

How was your weekend? Mine was bu-sy! We’ve got a lot of birthdays in mid-September — my Aunt Kathy’s is the 16th, my Dad’s is the 19th, Stan’s is the 21st. We celebrated Kathy & Dad’s with giant grinders and Avery’s soda on Saturday. If you’ve never had an Avery’s soda, stop by their New Britain headquarters and pick some up! They’ve got all sorts of whacky delicious flavors (Toxic Slime and Strawberry are my favorites; Stan loves Orange Cream), AND they’re still made with real cane sugar. Avery’s is one of my favorite things about my hometown. ♥

And this ban.do clutch is one of my favorite things in general. Stan got it for me last Christmas. :)

I love that it’s reversible (see the hot pink below), has a pretty polka heart lining, and reminds me to have fun. Plus it goes really well with my very fun, very sparkly Timex Originals.

So let’s confetti-kiss summer (and capris) goodbye for now, and delight in the season of apples, pumpkins, and beautiful foliage. Here’s to a fun-filled Fall!

Outfit: Red & Renaissance

Red and Renaissance outfit feature

Red and Renaissance outfit - magic hour - via @poorandpretty

I haven’t done in outfit post in over a month, but I’m so happy with how these photos came out! Stan and I were able to capture that elusive “magic hour” yesterday. The sun beaming through the trees makes my new red hair look like it’s on fire. I love it!

I can’t believe I haven’t shown off this sweater before — it’s one of my favorites. It’s cozy and soft and I love the shape. I call it my “Renaissance cardigan” because the way the sleeves fall remind me of that era. Plus, the tag says “Guinevere” (which I think may be an Anthropologie line.) I bought it a few years ago at Teenage Wasteland, a consignment shop in Simsbury, CT.

Oh, and my hair! I think I’ve finally found the color it was always meant to be. Last week, Suzi helped me dye it using Henna Color Lab’s Wine Red Henna Hair Dye. I’ve wanted to try out henna for a few years because there are so many horrific chemicals in regular hair dye and I really love my hair when it’s red. Last year I tried out Manic Panic, which is less chemical-ly, but it faded really quickly. So I took the plunge, did lots of research, and went with Henna Color Lab. I am SO HAPPY! I’ll go into more detail in a few weeks. I want to keep track of how the color holds up.

I’m also glad I get to break these babies out. I bought them at the tail end of boot season earlier this year, so they hardly got any use. They’re very comfortable, and I really like the button detail.

Falling for leaves & Autumn hues

burnt-orange-red-fall

Leaves are coming down pretty quickly now. We have this patch of trees right outside our windows where it seems all the leaves are gathering. I love looking out at it every morning to see how rapidly the colors are changing from varying shades of green into brilliant hues of orange, red, and yellow.

I’m having a hard time transitioning into Monday; it was such a beautiful, relaxing weekend. Stan and I went to our friends Jenna and Ryan’s wedding on Friday, which felt like an Apple reunion. Like Stan and I, Jenna and Ryan met working at Apple so we saw a lot of our old co-workers at the wedding. The next day, Suzi and Jon celebrated their 10 year anniversary. I can’t believe they’ve been married 10 years already!  Crazy how time flies by. They spent the day in New York while Stan and I struggled to get out of bed after having to turn on the heat in the condo. I just wanted to snuggle all weekend. The only productive thing I did was to make a bunch more cupcake soaps for Hartford HodgePodge next Sunday. I’m okay with that though. I needed a lazy weekend.
