What to Bring to a Blog Conference

I’m gearing up for The Hello Sessions in Portland this Friday — I can’t wait! It’s the first blog conference I’m attending in-person, so I’m pretty excited/nervous. I have a feeling I will be spending a good portion of tomorrow night packing, but here are some of the essentials (besides underwear) I’m bringing:

1. The perfect notebook. I love notebooks! I have so many unique ones, all filled with teenage angst and creative ideas. But this? This is the perfect notebook for creative conferences. It’s pretty, spiral bound (so you can slip a pen into it), and has a pocket (for all those business cards you’ll be collecting)! And, like everything ban.do makes, it has a sweet surprise in the way of a colorful yellow spread that reads: “Your face is like sunshine.” Get it: Ban.do Rough Draft Spiral Notebook.

2. My favorite pens. I’m pretty particular about my pens — I like colorful, smooth, ballpoint pens, preferably with a rubber grip — and these are my favorites. The hot pink is my go-to, of course! Get ‘em: Paper Make InkJoy Retractable Ballpoint Pens, 24 Pack of Assorted Colors.

3. Backup juice. I plan on doing a lot of Instagramming and Tweeting during my trip to Portland, so I know I’ll need an extra charge for my phone. This tiny power bank is about the size of a lipstick and holds an estimated 1.2 additional charges for the iPhone. It’s got just about 3,000 reviews on Amazon, and a 4.5 star rating. Oh, and it’s pink! ;) Get it: RavPower Portable Charger 3200mAh Power Bank.

4. LOTS of business cards. I ordered more business cards just for this! My goal is to run out again. :)

5. A bag to fit it all in. With all this stuff, you’re gonna need a bag to carry it all! I’ve been eyeing the Camp Director Tote for a while now — it’s pretty roomy, and will even hold a 15″ laptop. Get it: Camp Director Tote via ModCloth.

6. A cute dress. Why not wear a floral dress to the Rose City? I so wish this cute number was available in my size! Get it: Luck Be A Lady Dress via ModCloth.

7. Layers! Ever have that problem where you show up to an event in a sleeveless dress, only to discover it’s FRIGID inside? I definitely have! So now I pack layers, and J.Crew’s Jackie Cardi is one of my faves. Get it: Jackie Cardigan Sweater via J.Crew.

8. Cute-but-also-comfy shoes. The only thing worse than be freezing all day because you forgot to pack layers, is getting blisters from those shoes you bought just for the event that ended up murdering your feet. So go with something pretty, but also comfortable. Get it: In a Classic of Its Own Heel via ModCloth.

Did I leave anything out? Have you been to any awesome creative/blog conferences lately? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Outfit: Early Fall Florals + Avery’s Soda

It’s crazy how quickly Fall has arrived. Saturday, I was wearing shorts. Today, it’s too cold for me to be wearing these capris! (But I’m doing it anyway ’cause weather be damned!)

Avery's Soda New Britain via @poorandpretty

How was your weekend? Mine was bu-sy! We’ve got a lot of birthdays in mid-September — my Aunt Kathy’s is the 16th, my Dad’s is the 19th, Stan’s is the 21st. We celebrated Kathy & Dad’s with giant grinders and Avery’s soda on Saturday. If you’ve never had an Avery’s soda, stop by their New Britain headquarters and pick some up! They’ve got all sorts of whacky delicious flavors (Toxic Slime and Strawberry are my favorites; Stan loves Orange Cream), AND they’re still made with real cane sugar. Avery’s is one of my favorite things about my hometown. ♥

And this ban.do clutch is one of my favorite things in general. Stan got it for me last Christmas. :)

I love that it’s reversible (see the hot pink below), has a pretty polka heart lining, and reminds me to have fun. Plus it goes really well with my very fun, very sparkly Timex Originals.

Friday Faves: Boss Babe Must-Haves

As an entrepreneur with a full-time job and several side hustles, my brain is on overload pretty much all the time. Here are some of the tools I keep handy to stay organized and creative.

1. Confetti by The Confetti Bar. A must-have for spontaneous parties and photo shoots. There’s something about tossing confetti that’s fun and totally pumps up my creativity. My favorite mixes are Unicorn Dandruff, Rainbow Riot, and Mellow Yellowberry.

2. Boss Babe Glitter Party Banner by The Bannerie. Once my new office is ready, this will be strung up over my desk to serve as a constant reminder that I’m a badass boss babe (’cause sometimes solopreneuring is hard and I need a reminder).

3. Florabunda Large Agenda by ban.do. The biggest, most awesome agenda I’ve ever seen, Florabunda is filled with inspirational doodles, stickers, and even a secret code. It goes with me everywhere. The large (spiral-bound) agenda is sold out already, but you can still grab the smaller ones!

4. Crossbody Bag by Bicycles & Buttons. Kristina Allen of Bicycles & Buttons customized this crossbody bag for me with extra pockets for all of my tech + pens + sunglasses + other weird stuff I carry with me. The lining is pink with silver polka dots and is perfect in every way.

5. Epic Blog by Regina Anaejionu. The mother of all blog planners, Epic Blog has calendars, goal-setting (and measuring) worksheets, a place to record blog expenses and revenue, and more. If you’re a serious blogger, you should get this now.

10 Ways to Rock Florals

10 Ways to Wear Florals via @poorandpretty

Whether it’s a flower crown or a floral print dress (totally a 90s throwback), April showers have come and gone so now it’s time to wear flowers.

1. A Floral Frock. My flirty floral dress from Pink Basis was the perfect outfit to pay homage to spring. Don’t forget to enter to win a $50 Pink Basis gift card!  // Dress via Pink Basis (no longer available).

2. Twice is Nice. Two floral dresses are better than one! I couldn’t resist including this pretty 60s-esque dress, too. Just look at those bell sleeves! // Dress via Ruche.

3. The Botanical Blazer. Artsy meets chic meets professional in this Fab Floral Designer Blazer, with so many fresh spring hues. // Blazer via ModCloth.

4. Pocket(book) Full of Posies. Dress up any outfit with a pop of flowers when you carry around this dainty little Lipsy purse. // Clutch via ASOS.

5. Marigolds à la Main. Dress up your hands with marigolds or daisies with this casual-and-sweet Timex Weekender Floral wrist accessory. // Watch via Timex.

6. Nail Garden. I would not have the patience or steady hand to create something this beautiful on my nails, but I sure would let someone else try. Any takers? // Nail Art via Brit + Co.

7. A Crown of Flowers. This floral crown is simply stunning – and relatively easy to make! // Gilded Floral Crown Tutorial via The Day’s Design.

8. Queen Anne’s Necklace. This handmade necklace is created with Queen Anne’s Lace, dyed and pressed, and preserved within an antique brass pendant. // Necklace via KATEEMARIE on ScoutMob.

9. Tip Toe-ing Tulips. Okay, maybe their aren’t any actual tulips on these shoes, but I’m trying to be clever here, folks. Either way, these floral heels are toe-tally perfect for garden parties. // Floral Heels via Ruche.

10. What’s your agenda? I can’t even put into words how awesome ban.do’s large floral agenda is. It’s got fun doodles, pockets, stickers, color-coded month tabs… Pretty much the exact thing I need to get myself organized. (I do have a birthday coming up… ;) // Florabunda Agenda via ban.do

How will you wear florals this spring?

Color Love: Lucite Green

Color Love - Lucite Green feat

One of PANTONE’s color trends for this spring is Lucite Green ~ a pretty color that looks like the lovechild of seafoam and aqua. I loved putting this inspiration board together because it reminded me that spring is coming (eventually) and that there are actual colors in this world (not just white, brown, and gray). Here are a few of my favorite Lucite Green things:
