DIY Braided Fabric Headband

I have been making headbands like a maniac lately! A couple weeks ago, I posted a tutorial on how to make a yarn-wrapped headband, and before that I wrote a guest post for the Jennie Fresa Beauty Library on making bridal headbands. Today’s DIY is on braided fabric headbands, which I think are the easiest to make. Here it goes:

Wardrobe Envy: Charlotte Charles

Stan and I have been re-watching Pushing Daisies, wondering how it ever got cancelled and drooling over Chuck’s {Charlotte Charles’} wardrobe. Okay, that last part is just me. Anna Friel is just too cute!

Anyway, I wanted to put together some looks that are inspired by Chuck, but won’t break the bank. Here are a few Polyvore sets I came up with:

Yello, flowers! {Chuck Inspired}

WWCD? More like WWCW {What Would Chuck Wear}?

Peachy Green {Chuck Inspired}
Pom-poms & Polka Dots {Chuck Inspired}

I almost bought the above polka dot dress from Delia’s in blue, but it fit me a teensy bit funny on top, so I’m still on the hunt for the perfect polka dot dress.

Whose wardrobe inspires you?

Today's Threads: 5.24.11 {birthday edition}

Sorry for the late post, but it has been a very busy day for me. I woke up, watched an episode of Sex & the City, went to work, officially became 24 at 5:21 pm, modeled for Jenny Maher of loveycraft and loveyvintage, got an old VW Beetle convertible as a present, drove home in it, ate dinner and watched the latest episode of The Office with Stan.

…Totally kidding about the Beetle. I wish it was mine! It belongs to one of the other loveycraft models, who kindly let me take photos with it {thank you, Trish!}. Photos courtesy of Jillian Farrell, 60b Photography. {Jill would like me to inform you that they are not fully edited, and I also cropped them, AND this is the first official use of her new totally rad logo! Yay!} <3

Shoes: Plato’s Closet, $6, originally from Forever 21. White capris: Old Navy, around $10. Floral tank top: Target, $8 {just realized the shoes & tank were in my previous “today’s threads“… guess I really like them!}. Sweater: H&M, $10.

Don't miss these upcoming Connecticut fair(e)s!

Here are a few upcoming fair(e)s you should definitely attend in the next two weekends:

Brazen Betties 2nd Birthday Street Fair: Brazen Betties is celebrating its second year in business by hosting a street fair in Torrington on Saturday, May 21st from 4-8pm. Owner Julia Sloan will have tons of fun stuff going on, including a fashion show, live music, a hula-hoop contest, and even zombies! Check out the 20+ vendors, and make sure you pick up some of my soaps while you’re down there — I may even be there to hand them to you! <3 More info on the Facebook event.

Robin Hood Springtime Festival {Renaissance Faire} — I love Renaissance Faires! My mom used to take us to the New York one every fall, and the last three years Stan and I have gone to the Connecticut Ren Faire in Hebron, usually around October/November. This year, we’re excited to go to the Robin Hood Springtime Festival for the first time! If you’ve never been to a Renaissance Faire, you are totally missing out. They have guards that ticket you for frolicking, delicious turkey legs, singing wenches, jousting, interestingly-clad cast members, sword-fighting classes, maypole dancing, fantasy and period costumes for sale, and so much more! {Can you tell how excited I am?}

The faire is only running for two more weekends though, so put on your best wench dress or wizard cloak and get to Guilford! <3 Click here for the Facebook event.

Urban Oaks Green Faire: Lots of faires going on in CT this month! Although there probably won’t be green dragons at this one, there will be plenty of other “green,” because this faire is all about sustainability. Before you head to Torrington, stop by my hometown of New Britain between 10am-4pm for food, eco-conscious products and services, a drumming circle, and tips on how to “think globally by acting locally.” Sponsored by Urban Oaks Organic Farm. Confirm your attendance on Facebook.

Weekend in Long Island

Stan and I went to Long Island yesterday to see his aunt’s art show. Though it was a long drive {4 hours there; 3 back — the ferry was a bit out of our budget}, it was nice to be out of CT for a day and a half. I wish I had taken photos of his Aunt Julia’s sculptures and life-size portrait paintings, but I believe you can’t really experience the emotional nature of art unless you’re standing right in front of it, seeing every little detail. I do have photos of the dress I wore, which I bought during our trip to California at a vintage clothing store in Venice called Gotta Have It. When I saw this dress, I knew I had to have it {and wear it to Julia’s art show} :

Sorry for the graininess of the photo; we only had our iPhones on us :/
