I’ve been obsessing over Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High, the late 80s/early 90s series that gave birth to {literally} Degrassi: The Next Generation {I watched that, too, until all the characters changed}. I could go on and on about how Degrassi has always been the most intelligent, informative and all-around amazing young adult television show, but I promise I won’t. Let’s just say, when I have kids, they’re definitely watching it.
Anyway, I’ve always loved 80s fashion — okay, some 80s fashion. It just seems so bright and fun, two adjectives I try to incorporate into my daily outfits. Lucy Fernandez {played by Anais Granofsky} has an especially great wardrobe. Including the one shown in the photo above, here are a few of my favorite outfits:
Sorry about the image quality — they didn’t have 1080p in the 80s!
I love how she’s always wearing a head scarf too. So cute!
I know, it’s a late post, but I love this dress so much, so I had to post about it! I call this my “woman bug dress.” It would be my “lady bug dress,” but Sani {who made me try on — and subsequently buy — the dress} told me that her mom calls lady bugs “woman bugs,” which I thought was ridiculously cute. Hence, woman bug dress.
In case you’re wondering about my awful roots, I’m having a hard time deciding if I want to just grow my hair out to be its natural color again, or if I want to try dying it with henna. Opinions?
When Sabrina Allard {of Pinky’s Pen} and I did a styling session together in April, we became fast friends. It’s hard not to love her! To me, Sabrina is the epitome of someone who is loving and living life to the fullest. She’s like a muse, always oozing inspiration, creativity, and motivation. She has two kids, and two jobs besides that, but she somehow always has energy and enthusiasm, perfectly personified by her wild amazing hair. And, did I mention killer style? {Click on the images to see the original post from Pinky’s Pen}.
As a personal stylist, she has to have an acute fashion sense, but Sabrina also has money sense {money cents??}. Her closet isn’t full of high-end couture, yet she still manages to look like a million bucks every day — which gives hope to poor and pretty chicks like me!
I also admire Sabrina’s courage to mix patterns and colors that you wouldn’t normally put together, to create really unique and beautiful outfits. Like these, where she pairs dots/circular patterns with florals:
I seem to always feel compelled to wear gray on rainy days. But, as I’m trying to keep some color in my outfits, I threw on some light pink as well, and decided to make a COLOURlovers palette to match:
I have been making headbands like a maniac lately! A couple weeks ago, I posted a tutorial on how to make a yarn-wrapped headband, and before that I wrote a guest post for the Jennie Fresa Beauty Library on making bridal headbands. Today’s DIY is on braided fabric headbands, which I think are the easiest to make. Here it goes:
