Friday Faves…4.23.10

ff4.15.10

1. Influence by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. I’ve had this book for a while now but started reading it again recently.  It’s an amazing look into the inspirations of the twin style icons.  It’s fashion, art and culture.

2.  Beauty Rush Body Glimmer Swirl Cream from Victoria’s Secret. I love the Coconut Craze scent.  This stuff is moisturizing and leaves a pretty little sparkle on your skin.

3. Walk the Line Liquid Eyeliner by Hard Candy.  Glittery goodness in a cute little tube.  I like it in “dream girl”.

4. Sincere blush by MAC.  Great summer color!!!  It’s a peachy matte blush…it looks like sun on pale skin <3.

5. Cremesheen Glass in “Boy Bait”. Great pastel nude/pink color that ooks great over lipstick or alone.  It’s not  sticky feeling or thick but creamy and comfortable.  All the shades are hot but I love the lightest.

Collinsville.

2010-04-11 16.22.01

I’m smitten with Collinsville, this historic little town in CT.  Cobblestone sidewalks, little antique stores and jewelry shops nestled right next to the Farmington River…it’s really quite beautiful.2010-04-11 16.09.35

Mmm… Battleship and the Ming Chicken at LaSalles Market and Deli with Pawel. We also had iced coffee and split a slice of pizza too. Best pizza I’ve ever had. <3  If you’ve never been here, I suggest you take a little trip and spend some time wondering around the center of town on a beautiful day.

Katy Perry inspired nails…

OPI’s collection “Alice in Wonderland” was pretty neat…until I went to the nail salon and saw up close the ”Mad as a hatter” color.  HOLY CRAP,  This polish is amazing.  I decided to slap it over some “Pamplona Purple” and voila!  It looked smashing.

It reminded me of the nails Katy Perry had at the Kids Choice Awards.  Hers matched her outfit and shoes.  (She’s way too cool, love her.)  I couldn’t find a great pic of her nails but isn’t her outfit rad?

Get “Beachy” Hair with Tigi

My new obsession is natural beach-like hair.  I’m talking rolled out of bed, crazy, messy waves.  I love it.  I’ve been rockin’ my hair like this for a few weeks now and thought I’d show you guys how it’s done.  There are two ways:  The lazy way, and the blow dry way.  I’m liking the Tigi’s Love, Peace and The Planet, Totally Beachin’ Body and Waves Styling Mist, (Phew that was a mouthful).  Here’s a quick vid on how to achieve this look, beaches.

The song is “California” by Metro Station…

Would you try this?

Beauty Investigation: Primer & Oil Control

target: mish

skin type: oily

solution: oil control/ primer

I’ve been doing a little experiment with different primers and oil control products.  Since my skin is a bit on the oily side I’ve been having an issue with my make up staying.  Also, I’ve been trying to wear a bang on my forehead and they tend to get pretty separated because of the oil. (supes annoying!)

So we all know excess oil is caused by overactive sebaceous glands set on by stress, hormones, or just plain heredity.  While excess oil is common, it may lead to other problems including acne and clogged pores. Ugh.

How do we treat it?!?!  Well, I guess we have to use cleansers to wash away all the oil, dirt and makeup.  BUT…we cannot over-wash it and dry it out which may lead to your skin producing more oil.  Great.  So we should use a gentle cleanser designed for oily skin.

There is also another solution you can add to your skin care regiment.  These anti shine primer products.  They are supposed to create a barrier between skin and make up and soak up excess oils.  So I tried some of these products each day of the week.  Every time I used the same moisturizer, foundation and powder with them for fairness.  Oh, and I used them on 8 hour work days too.

1.Make Up For Ever, All Mat. $45

Didn’t see much difference using this, tried it a few times and saw just as much oil as before using nothing.  I was excited to try this one but was disappointed.

2. Sephora Collection, “Tricks of the Trade” Anti shine primer. $18

This one was a lot better then the last.  I still noticed oil later on in the day but it held it off for a while and lessened it.

P182405_hero3. Bare Essentials, Prime Time. $21

This one was OK.  Still noticed oil, not as much, better than the first one, worse than the second.

monistat

4. Monistat, Anti Chafing Gel. $8

Worked pretty well for the price.  I know it sounds strange but people use it as a facial primer and oil control, it was comparable to the Bare Essentials but better than All Mat.

anti shine5.Eve Pearl, Anti Shine Mattifying Gel, Light Medium. $20

This is tinted so it doesn’t shine.  I didn’t notice any oil…even by the end of the day.  This is definitely the best by far.  I’ll keep using this for sure.

Have you guys used any that you like??  Any of these?? Let us know!
