I had planned on sharing a tutorial for making a pegboard wall organizer today, but there is something else that has been on my mind. You may have noticed I have begun increasingly adding sponsored links (for clothing, cosmetics, etc.) throughout my posts. This is a small effort toward monetizing my blog. My next step was to add sidebar ads, which will go live this weekend.
If you’ve been reading me long enough, you’ve probably gathered that I’m very creative and entrepreneurial. My long-term career goal is to be entirely self-employed. I’m still working out the details of that plan, but I’ve already dipped my toe into the water by beginning this blog in 2009 and moving Poor & Pretty into a small bath & body company in 2010. Though I’m happy with what I’ve done with my products, I don’t plan on reaching my goal on cupcake soaps alone. This is why I am focusing more of my energy on ways to generate income from my blog. I spend hours every week preparing content to share with you. And even though it is work, it’s creative work that brings me so much joy. It forces me to make time for creativity — a skill that I believe gets put on the back burner when we are bogged down in things like debt, chores, and a 9-5 job.
I am at my happiest when I am mixing together a homemade sugar scrub, developing a new cupcake recipe, or finding supplies with Stan for a DIY pegboard organizer (next week, I promise!). Okay, I’m pretty happy when I’m eating cupcakes and taking nights off to watch an embarrassing number of Dexter episodes with Stan, too. However, I know that ultimately, I need to be hands-on, creating and crafting, but I also need to find ways to support these endeavors.
All of this is just to share with you a little bit of what’s been on my mind and in my heart for the past few months. For the next step of turning Poor & Pretty into a for-profit endeavor, I will be adding advertisements to the sidebar this weekend. Please know that I will never, ever feature products, companies, or brands that I do not truly believe in. Anything that appears in a post or an ad will be for a product, company, or brand that I have personally reviewed. You trust that the opinions I express in my posts are my own, and they always will be. I will never copy & paste talking points about products just to make a quick buck.
I love sharing my quirky adventures with you, and I hope to inspire you to make, explore, and have more fun. Someday, I will be fully self-employed, and I plan to share every step of that journey with you.
Thank you for continuing to read Poor & Pretty.
So much love,
