If you’ve been reading us for a while now, you know that I’m on a mission to make my own cosmetics. It’s a slow-going process since I don’t have a whole lot of money to buy tons of ingredients at once, so I focus on making one or two beauty products a month. So far, I’m really satisfied with my homemade lip balm, sugar scrub, bath bombs, and body butter bars. I’ve also produce a few masks that I like, and you can find the recipe for a strawberry one here. However, there are still a few cosmetics that I have not been able to make myself just yet, and this friday faves is dedicated to my favorite not-handmade-by-me beauty products {and tools!}:
1. The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Skin Care Starter Kit — I bought this when it was on sale and I actually love everything inside this pink mesh bag. It comes with a cream cleanser, hydrating toner, moisture cream, and night cream. I’ve never used a cream cleanser before, so I was a little skeptical of using it at first, but I was surprised at how much better it is at removing makeup than any makeup remover I’ve ever tried. It’s also a nice change from soap cleansers that tend to dry out my skin. I also don’t use toners much, but because this one hydrates my skin and helps make it receptive to moisturizer, I’ve found myself adding it in to my daily skin care regimen. Both moisturizers absorb quickly, and neither make my skin feel greasy.
2. Lollibomb’s Get Nakey! Vegan Mineral Foundation Powder in “Lili” — I mentioned getting a sample of this as a part of my first purchase from Lollibomb in this post. I’d never been a huge fan of powder before using Lollibomb’s because I have a dry t-zone and, no matter how much I exfoliate and moisturize, my powder always ended up looking dry on top of my t-zone, even with foundation underneath. The Get Nakey! Vegan Mineral Foundation Powder, however, keeps my skin smooth, doesn’t clump, and gives me a nice, even skin tone and a healthy glow.
3. The Body Shop’s Kabuki Bronzing Brush — To have the perfect application of foundation powder, you need a great brush, of course! Now, I’d often heard from cosmetologists that synthetic-hair brushes don’t perform as well as animal hair ones, but that didn’t sit well with me. I like my products to be as animal-friendly as possible, and even though I was on a hunt for high-quality brushes, I was determined to find some that were made from synthetic fibers. I tried some made from animal hair, but then I stopped in at The Body Shop, and I left with their Kabuki Bronzing Brush. Okay, so it’s designed to be used mainly with bronzing powder, but it works great alongside my Get Nakey! Vegan Mineral Foundation Powder, too. See? You can save animals without sacrificing quality! :)
