skin type: oily
solution: oil control/ primer
I’ve been doing a little experiment with different primers and oil control products. Since my skin is a bit on the oily side I’ve been having an issue with my make up staying. Also, I’ve been trying to wear a bang on my forehead and they tend to get pretty separated because of the oil. (supes annoying!)
So we all know excess oil is caused by overactive sebaceous glands set on by stress, hormones, or just plain heredity. While excess oil is common, it may lead to other problems including acne and clogged pores. Ugh.
How do we treat it?!?! Well, I guess we have to use cleansers to wash away all the oil, dirt and makeup. BUT…we cannot over-wash it and dry it out which may lead to your skin producing more oil. Great. So we should use a gentle cleanser designed for oily skin.
There is also another solution you can add to your skin care regiment. These anti shine primer products. They are supposed to create a barrier between skin and make up and soak up excess oils. So I tried some of these products each day of the week. Every time I used the same moisturizer, foundation and powder with them for fairness. Oh, and I used them on 8 hour work days too.

1.Make Up For Ever, All Mat. $45
Didn’t see much difference using this, tried it a few times and saw just as much oil as before using nothing. I was excited to try this one but was disappointed.

2. Sephora Collection, “Tricks of the Trade” Anti shine primer. $18
This one was a lot better then the last. I still noticed oil later on in the day but it held it off for a while and lessened it.
3. Bare Essentials, Prime Time. $21
This one was OK. Still noticed oil, not as much, better than the first one, worse than the second.

4. Monistat, Anti Chafing Gel. $8
Worked pretty well for the price. I know it sounds strange but people use it as a facial primer and oil control, it was comparable to the Bare Essentials but better than All Mat.
5.Eve Pearl, Anti Shine Mattifying Gel, Light Medium. $20
This is tinted so it doesn’t shine. I didn’t notice any oil…even by the end of the day. This is definitely the best by far. I’ll keep using this for sure.
Have you guys used any that you like?? Any of these?? Let us know!

Yay!!!! I was waiting for this review!! Where can we buy the Eve Pearl primer??
How awesome! these reviews are always fun.
i bought this book recently called “don’t go to the cosemtics counter without me” at a bargain book store. i have the 6th edition printed way back in 2003. i know that the book is currently on its 8th edition. my cosmetic addiction redeveloped only recently. i strayed away from makeup fandom for awhile. but now im back, and it’s been fun.
does any one else have a copy of the book? what are your opinions of it. i came across a comment saying that it was “infamous”. is this really the case?
